Common questions showing up in my inbox. What is marriage to me, why did I stay, and why did I go? I stayed because I was married, and because the reasons I said yes still lived in my heart. Marriage for me was never a carless choice. We've all seen the Hallmark version the impossible fairytale where relationships, love, marriage is only highs, laughter, and perfection. That's not my idea of the fairytale, mine is one where the things that matter most to me are found in a person who encourages me to be my best and loves me fiercely even at my worst. It's a daily investment, a bank with many accounts. 

There’s a moment after divorce when the dust settles just enough for you to look around and ask, “Who am I now?”For many of us, that moment comes right as we tiptoe back into the dating world. You’re carrying new wisdom, a few new scars, and perhaps a shaky sense of trust. And suddenly, boundaries, those things you may have struggled with in your marriage become essential. The truth is, dating after divorce isn’t just about finding someone new, it’s about finding the version of yourself who can choose better, communicate better, and protect your peace. Boundaries are the bridge between the person you were and the person you're becoming.

The truth of it is, the disappointment of a failed marriage is not easy to get past. It leaves behind a trail of emotions grief, guilt, confusion, and a heavy layer of self-doubt. When something you once believed in ends, it shakes your sense of self. You begin to wonder: Was it me? Did I miss the signs? Could I have done more? But I have elaborated on this in the past. Today is about the question I have been asked many times since starting my blog, usually with curiosity, sometimes with a hint of expectation

Last month was focused on answering some beautiful questions that touched me as the emails came flooding in. This month I will talk about the early days of the feelings that pour into the new life you start after leaving.

Dedicating this month’s blog to all of you who’ve reached out with some truly amazing questions. Each one has been thought-provoking and, honestly, quite challenging to answer in the best way possible. We all come from different backgrounds, hold different values, and find ourselves in unique situations (and situationships). And that’s what makes these conversations so rich, real, and worth exploring.

We have talked about how hard it can be to reach that moment, the one where you know it's time to leave and the timing finally feeling right. But what doesn't get talked about enough is the space in between when you actually make the exit. The difficulty of unpacking the life you built together. 

Some people make the decision early on, and for others, it takes years to reach this point. What’s important to understand is that choosing to step out of pain and darkness, to clear the fog and reclaim yourself, does not come easily. Recognizing the patterns of abuse that never change, and taking the courageous steps to separate yourself from them often comes in waves of self-preservation.

There is something quietly powerful about a woman who chooses to live intentionally. I wake each morning no longer just going through the motions, but with a new focus not to react, but to create, to grow, to honor my inner voice. Once you choose this it comes with asking some of life's hard questions. What do I really want? What brings me peace? What am I no longer willing to carry? And then, slowing down enough to listen to that inner voice that has been whispering all along.

Many of us come to a point in our lives where we find ourselves in a life that we never would have imagined. What we do next isn't just important, it's pivotal. I find myself no longer bound by the  weight of manipulation or constant doubt that clouded my worth. Walking away wasn't easy but it was powerful. Now every step is mine, fueled by freedom, self-respect, and the quiet strength that comes from surviving what tried to break me. I am not just healing---I am rising. And what's ahead is mine to claim, fully and fearlessly.
